Organic burgers for Australian cities

The fast food chain Hungry Jack's has announced a deal to use organic beef to make its Country Burgers, reports the online magazine Adelaide now.

A speaker ofthe 345 Hungry Jack's restaurants said that under the deal it would produce 100 per cent organic beef burgers from 20 Outback cattle producers in the Channel Country of western Queensland and northern South Australia.Chief executive Aaron McKie said the organic beef in its burgers would provide a superior taste because the cattle are bred and grazed entirely on native pasture, including 250 different species of native herbs and grasses.

Mr McKie said Hungry Jack'swas serious about improving the nutritional quality of its food as demonstrated by the new Country Burgers and other products including a cup of fresh vegetables it has named Salad Stix and the use of much less saturated fat, sodium and sugar levels.

The OBE Organic group was founded in the early 1990s by a group of Australian pastoral families including current chairman David Brook from Birdsville. It has grown to become Australia's largest and most successful organic producer with 20 members owning a combined herd of 70,000–90,000 head of cattle on more than seven million hectares.
