France: organic boom continues
Organic sector sales in 2009 are estimated at 3 billion EUR by the partly state-owned development association Agence Bio. This is about twice as much as 2005 (1.6 billion EUR). Last year, the market grew by 400 million EUR, equivalent to 19 % growth. Agence Bio assumes that the market will continue to grow dynamically in 2010. Initial estimates show appreciable growth rates for the conventional retail food trade (except hard discounters): +35 % for drinks, especially fruit juices, 20 % for some fresh products and 18 % for finished products like soups, stewed fruit and sliced bread for toasting.
